Restoration Project of Dighawapi Stupa

The field investigation and  observation of the progress of Dighawapi Stupa which is being restored under the total supervision of Department of Archaeology with the leadership  ‘Archaeological Heritage Management Presidential Task Force’ (PTF)  in the Eastern Province were carried out by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Chief Trustee and First Trustee of Deegawapiya Aruna Trust'), the Chief Army Commander of Sri Lanka Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage and  Sri Lanka Air Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa on 20.03.2024.

There, instructions were given for the prompt completion of work of the main relic chamber and the excavation of the stupa courtyard. The members of Scholarly Advisory Committee of Dighawapi and Neelagiri Stupa Restoration Projects along with the Director (Architectural Conservations) of the Department of Archaeology participated in this occasion.
