I will destroy the Lankan kingdom

I will gift this country to the enemy

                                     I will take the revenge

I will remove the king from throne (134, p.16)

People who witnessed the above massacre, the people who heard about this inhuman

massacre were completely upset about the tragedy of Ehelepola family. The above

verse of the poem was one of the best examples to showcase Sri Lankans’ frustration
that which had prevailed during that time. Simultaneously, the integration of the same

inhuman massacre by the contemporary historical Sri Lankan Sinhalese novelist has
                                              st
been reflected even in the 21 century. The human sensitivity that which resides
behind the massacre of Ehelepola family has been come long way up to date in the art

forms. The justice that which is being deserved by the Ehelepola family currently
circulated through the contemporary historical Sri Lankan Sinhalese novelist.

3.2 The sections of contemporary historical Sri Lankan Sinhalese novelist’s

               historical imagination

The life of Ehelepola Kumārihāmi has been explored through the series of two Sri
Lankan historical contemporary novels, Kumārihāmi I and Kumārihāmi II of Priyanka

Amarathunga. Pabodha is a Sri Lanakan who resides in United Kingdom has arrived
at her aunt’s home, Kandy. Pabodha has arrived Uthpala’s home with the purpose of

collecting information to write her final thesis. A series of mystical factors have been
happened around her while she visits the Temple of the tooth. Pabodha has been

forced to write the story of Ehelepola Kumārihāmi by the unrecognized source of

power that resides in Kandy. Pabodha has started to encounter a series of visionaries
related Ehelepola Kumārihāmi. Those visionaries can be related to the historical

imagination of the writer of the present series of novels, Priyanka Amarathunga. In
addition to the above factor, the difficult life of aunt, Uthpala and Senerath

Ehelepola’s lives have been depicted. Uthpala has married to a Nilame (aristocrat in
Kandy) who has been originated from the family of Ehelepola Kumārihāmi. Uthpala’s

life was not a happy and a cheerful marriage of being married to one of the grand

children of Ehelepola Kumārihāmi. They are living in Ehelepola bungalow and was
forced to adhere into the strict laws of the family.
