Please lord, save my children. I do not know where my husband is. If my
husband has been caught, he would be given the most inhuman punishment
where he would been killing while being alive. If I was supposed to witness
something like that, …. I took a deep breath. That’s a relief that he hides. But
what kind of punishment that me and my children would be given?
(Kumārihāmi II, Chapter 15, P. 127)
Ehelepola Kumārihāmi was a noble woman who loved her husband and her children.
She was an innocent and an obedient woman who devoted her life to the well being of
her family.
3.2.3 Romance between the husband and the wife.
In the chapter 1 of Kumārihāmi II, Ehelepola Kumārihāmi was pregnant for the
second time. The novelist has visualized a romantic intercourse between Ehelepola
Adikar and Kumārihāmi as follows, it was a calm evening. Her husband has embraced
her from behind while touching her hair. She seemed to be worried over her eldest son,
Loku Bandara who was scared over everything. Simultaneously, her husband
consoled her. (P.10) In the chapter 15 of Kumārihāmi II, the king was determined
about his decision of killing Ehelepola family. He declared his anger towards the
Ehelepola family. Simultaneously, Kumārihāmi has gone back to one of the romantic
memories that once she had shared with her husband. She remembered the ways in
which her husband and herself were amazed by the trees that which are filled by
Ehela flowers. They were amazed by the beauty of Esela trees that which were grown
behind their bungalow. And Ehelpola Adikar had appreciated his wife, “the beauty
that which is in your face and the heart will be lost for any of the beautiful things in
the world, Kumārihāmi.”
The above scenery was frustrated because it seemed she missed her husband beside
her and the appreciation that which had received by her husband was a sweet memory
to her. Though she was above to get killed by the king, her mind was wandering over
the sweet memories that she had shared with her husband. (p.128)
