Conservation work on the Department of Archaeology Library commenced today under the direction of the Director General of Archaeology, Prof. Tusita Mandis, and the guidance of the Director of Architectural Conservation, Architecture Prasanna B. Ratnayake. Archaeologist Douglas Bandara, Assistant Director of Archaeology for the Western Province, supervises the initiative.
The project began following a ceremonial religious rite, marking the formal start of conservation efforts. Reverend Ranne Silavimala Thero, Assistant Director Archaeologist Douglas Bandara, various officials and conservation staff, Librarian Nishanthi Ranasinghe, and Library Assistant Chamila attended the event.
This conservation work aims to preserve and enhance the library’s resources, ensuring its continued role in supporting archaeological research and education.
