Study of the inscription near the Anuladevi Chaitanya

For the exhibition at the Anuladevi archaeological site, the 29-line inscription was deciphered by officials from the Epigraphy and Numismatics section, Department of Archaeology,  under the direction of the Director General of Archaeology. The inscription was read by section officers, Dhammika Gamage, Dr. Dammi Bandara, Namali Kannangara, Ajith Athukorala, Champa Wickramarachchi, and Imalka Danansuriya.

This inscription contains information about grants made on the tenth day of the waxing moon in the month of Binara (August-September) in the third year of the raising of the umbrella of dominion by great King Chulanaga (Khujjanaga) (192-194 AD), the son of King Malutissa (Kanthatissa) (164-192 AD).

The contains an extensive description of the grants made by several individuals to the Anula Tissa Pavatha Temple (Anula Tissa Pabbata) located to the west of the city, as well as to the nearby Jetutisa Pavatha Temple (Jettatissa Pabbatha) and Aba Vehera (Abaya Viharaya).

Further research will be conducted, and a comprehensive analysis of the inscription will be published in due case.
