A particularly unusual kind of image house found in some Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka is called a Tampita Viharaya (Temple on Pillars). The Tampita Vihare (the temple on pillars), which is located at Aluthherathgama Sri Uposatharama Vihare in Galgamuwa Divisional Secretariat Division of Kurunegala District, is a size 11'' x 15'' Tampita Vihare with constructions and artistic values belonging to the middle of the Kandyan period.
All the Buddha statues and paintings illustrate the pieces of art and artistic features of the Kandyan era. Among them are sculptures of a sitting Buddha statue, two standing Buddha statues and a Vishnu statue. The temple also has murals. All of these sculptures and paintings should be conserved. The destruction of the paintings has commenced. The timber frame on the pillars, the wooden surface, and the corner pillars of the outer walls have been worn off. The walls have cracks and damage. The timber in the roof has completely worn off. There are pieces of evidence of an ancient circumambulation path. Accordingly, action is being taken to finalize the conservation activities in the year 2024. The estimated provisions for the same are provided by the temple.
