The pond is carved from solid rock and features four water inlets, each adorned with a

lion mouth spout. Water to flow into the pond along an underground passage and fall
into the pond from all four cardinal directions through lion-mouthed conduits fixed on

the inner walls. No matter how much water is supplied to the pond, it will only fill up
to the lion's mouth. It can be speculated that the second floor has a hidden piping

system inside to remove more water. But no one has managed to find that pipeline.

From the top of Maragala mountain, water is taken from Maragala Oya to the pond.
The water was supplied through a pipe system. They are a type of water pipe created

using clay. Recently, the Department of Archeology has connected a plastic pipe to
the irrigation canal that takes water to the paddy field near the pond and takes water

from the pond. The water collected at one point by the main pipe is taken to Lion

mouth spout by four small pipes. It is significant that this internal small pipe system is
               an ancient pipe system.

               Factors of a Household

There are evidences that a house was built

using wooden pillars to completely cover the
pond. There were 13 foundations on each side.

The remains of stone foundations which the
pillars were fitted can still be seen in their old

form. An examination of the stone foundation
Figure 3; Remains of stone foundation of the
household. (Dissanayaka, 2024) shows that there were separate chambers for
changing clothes and resting in the large house.
