A training workshop on identifying deterioration in archaeological sites and monuments, and implementing appropriate conservation measures, was held in Polonnaruwa on October 15–16, 2024. The workshop saw the participation of 89 officers responsible for archaeological zones. Initiated and led by Prof. Thusitha Mandis, Director General of Archaeology, the program provided theoretical instruction and field training.
Organized by the Maintenance Division of the Department of Archaeology, the workshop also involved the participation of Assistant Directors (Maintenance, Planning, Central/Polonnaruwa, and Eastern Province), as well as officers from the Head Office’s Maintenance Division, and zonal officers from across the country.
