The State Vesak festival started on 21 May 2024 at the Dharmaraja Piriven Temple in Matale under the leadership of Prime Minister Mr Dinesh Gunawardena.
With the help of the Buddhasasana Ministry of Religious and Cultural Affairs, the state Vesak festival was planned. A joint exhibition featuring artifacts and replicas highlighting Sri Lankan heritage was organized by the Department of Archaeology, the Department of National Museums, and the Central Cultural Fund, all under the close supervision of Mr. Vidura Wickramanayake, the Hon. Minister of Buddhasasana Religious and Cultural Affairs.
At this year's State Vesak celebration, a number of events were organized, including the distribution of commemorative stamps.
Trinitarian prelates, ministers, ambassadors, ministry and scholars also joined for this purpose. Also, representing the Department of Archaeology, Director General of Archeology Prof. Thusitha Mendis and a group of officials participated in this opening ceremony.
