                       Conclusion


                       The  painting  tradition  within  the  Kandy  school  is  undoubtedly  a  sophisticated

                       undertaking,  characterized  by  artists  who  possess  rich  imagination,  thorough
                       knowledge,  creativity,  and  a  sophisticated  understanding  of  social,  political,  and

                       cultural tides.

                       Somana  (Chintz)  cloth  is  a  common  feature  in  the  mural  paintings  portraying

                       narrative  subjects  like  folk  lore  or  Jathaka  tales.  It  is  commonly  featured  in  these

                       murals in conformity with the social status of the subject persons portrayed. Royally
                       or  aristocratic  lineage,  for  instance,  are  portrayed  fully  dressed  in  highly  ornate
