                       Factor of a Latrine system

It is an important fact that the stone of the latrine built near the pond is still intact.
This latrine stone is carved using a large black stone, this is a water-printed latrine. It

is an important factor that there was an advanced clean technology system at that time
as well. It is clear from the decorative work carved around the stone that the ancient

artist was anxious to make even the latrine stone an artistic creation of that time. The

steppingstones of the latrine stone are cut into 8 inches in high. In front of the two
steppingstones, a 3-inch-deep place is prepared on the stone to place the water bowl.

There is a creeper design around it. A 6-inch-deep walled drain ends with a 2.5-inch
diameter hole to drain the dirty water that falls on the latrine stone. The dirty water

that falls into the latrine sinks down the drain and joins the sewer system through the
                       hole. (Rathnayaka, 2008).

                       Discussion and Conclusion

Pond Technology in ancient Sri Lanka

In the ancient ponds we can see they were built for various kind of reasons and
peoples. In Sri Lankan context we can see ponds such as,

                          - Royal ponds- the ponds built for royalist and elites
                          - Religious ponds- the ponds built for monks
                          - Normal ponds- the ponds built for normal peoples
                          - Natural ponds- naturally made ponds on a rock surface

When considering the purposes served by these ponds built in Sri Lanka, several

                       things become apparent:
