I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the following persons who provided
invaluable support to make this work a success.

All team members who contributed to the excavations of Anuradhapura Citadel during the
period 1984-89, specially Mr. L.V.A. de Mel, for his constant supervision which maintained
the clarity of the stratigraphic delineation of the sondages in the Citadel. Mr. Nawaratna
Karawgahanga, Mr. Namal Kodithuwakku, Mr. Gamini Samaranayake and Ms. Ashoka
Siriwrdhane and who carried out pottery classification work in parallel with the excavations.
